Genesis – A steel and marble construction representing the moment in time when a compressed cloud of hydrogen gas ignites to become a star. Something that can provide light and warmth to surrounding planets, encouraging and supporting the development of organic life. In the “belt” of the Orion constellation, there is a stellar nursery where stars form from enormous clouds of Hydrogen. During it’s life, the star converts all that Hydrogen into the heavy elements that make up the rest of the universe. At the end of the stars lifecycle those heavier elements are blown out into the universe,
Carl Sagan once famously said: “We are made of star stuff.” He was referring to the origin of many elements like the calcium in our bones and the iron in our blood that are expelled out into the universe during the last breaths of dying stars.
